Racer Space and Baja For Breast Cancer will be entering a team (or teams) in the 2009 Score Baja 1000 in motorcycle classes or possible quad classes to be determined. If you are interested, reply here or email me on Racer Space.

Jay,
Can you tell us more about Baja for Breast Cancer.

We also display the pink ribbon.

Warren, good to hear. We did the 2006 B1K as a tribute to survivors and those we remember that suffered from Breast Cancer. The inspiration was my mom who I lost in 2003. We tried to turn the whole bike pink, but couldnt get it all.

We raised money and let our friends and family know what we were up to by sending out a nice packet to everyone detailing our mission and asking for donations which we worked with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to do. Donations were in memory of or in support of loved ones, and we put their names on the tank of the bike:

The bike got a lot of attention down there, and has shown up in marketing and videos that I have found. A lot of people had their picture taken with it at tech and before the start so it made a wonderful impression. I am unsure if I am going to this years race, uncertain if I have a team yet and uncertain if my broken collarbone is going to be good to go. I hope to, and I would love to help you guys any way that I can. Just let me know what you need!

Jay

I'm interested in joining up with a SCORE team and assist in prep and race activities (hopefully Phoenix, AZ based or close?). Mainly interested in a team focused on cars or trucks. I am not a good mechanic, but I have the desire to learn. I work in a design and engineering field where I do computer design from mechanical, industrial or graphics. It's a dream of mine to race in a SCORE season one day and would really love the chance to help a team in anyway I could. If your a team or looking to start one and I could be of assistance, even if it's for a waterboy position, please e-mail me! If it is just computer work you would require as prep help, I can assist remotely.

Thanks, Mike

I have the equipment and the desire to ride, but not sure if my other team mates are up for it this year. I am talking to a couple people about possibly joining their teams but not sure. I am going to try to get them all together on here so that we can all help each other down there if we all end up going. Stay tuned for more, I guess...

You could go solo ;-)

Don't temp me. This would be the year for it If I could. But I have been off the bike for a month already and another month to go with a big plate and 7 screws in my collarbone. I can pull off 300 fast miles I'm sure, it's the other 700 that would hurt!

hey im thinking about joining a team as a racer for the 09 season. im 19 yrs old and im from atwater ohio. what are the requirements for this race or for joining a team?

Hi Joey,
The first requirement is to be prepared to go to the races supporting yourself.
The second requirement is to find out as much information as you can about what your getting yourself into. The SCORE website has the basic information about the races. Baja.net has some good information about riding/racing in Mexico, use your judgement when reading other peoples opinions or advice.

The best way to start is to get a few of your riding mates to commit to going (financially!!!!). It comes down to the mighty dollar when putting a team together, can you afford to do it without giving yourself an ulcer over finances.
It might be cheaper and less stressful to join a team with Chris Haines or Tim Morton if you don't have the, time, bikes, support equipment, support team, experience, funds, or plan to do it more than a one off.
If you are lacking in any of these areas there are alternative solutions with a commensurate increase in stress and cost. The first attempt at a Baja is one of the greatest learning experiences of your life.
If your serious, grab it by the horns and hang on. Be warned it is addictive.
Send me an email with specific questions if you want more info. I did it the hard way last year and I'm going back this year.

I have a 79 Bronco that my buddy and I are fixing up for the Baja 1000. We are quickly finding that we are running out of money fast. If anyone would like to join our team or we can join a team that would be great. Please give us any suggestions you may have or any help finding sponsors....
