Recently several people have contacted me regarding the upcoming Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 races.

Many are looking to put a team together for the upcoming races. Racing in Baja requires a great deal of planning, knowledge and resouces. It looks as though we may be able to put a couple teams together for at least the 2009 SCORE Baja 1000 and pool our resources.

If you are interested in the 2009 race as a racer, spectator or pit support crew please contact me.

Which brings me to another question. I have many of the pit frequencies that were used last year programmed into our radios for monitoring purposes, as well as Weatherman, BLM and SAR. Do the pits typically use the same freq's year to year? We do not have our own frequency licensed to use for the race (didn't think it would serve much of a purpose as the portable radio on the rider will be out of range for the most part), but wonder what others do. Any thoughts? Thanks, for replying, BTW....

Most of the frequencies will stay the same from year to year.
I guess you are using one of the pit services (MAG7, Baja Pits), they have their own freq that should be in your radios if they are pre-programmed.
You will be welcome, and expected to use that freq on the bike. The chase vehicles will generally use the pit freq to talk to the bike when they can, and monitor weatherman/emergency freqs. The chase vehicles can use weatherman to get a status on the bike if he's not too busy, if you haven't had an update for awhile. It is best to have access to your own tracking system (SPOT) via phone to someone with reliable internet access.

Happy to answer questions. Look at my webpage to get personal email.

Yes, we will probably sign up with MAG7 and I already have theirs and also Baja Pits' frequencies in our radios. I'm glad we'll be welcome to talk on their channels, just had no idea what to expect in that regard. Of course, we'll keep any radio traffic to a minimum since I'm sure the channels will be slammed during the race. At this point we haven't decided about SPOT, but I'm educating myself on it just in case. Do you know when SCORE typically starts posting information about the race every year? I keep watching for it.... :-) Thanks again!

Hi Liz,
I'm racing Vegas 2 Reno this week, and trying SPOT the first time for race tracking. This is the link to my SPOT shared page if you are interested in seeing how it goes. http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0rOuFt2...
Maps and info to follow the race are available on the BITD website.
Last year SCORE started posting info around Now, keep an eye on their website.
Baja.net is good at getting reasonably reliable info out early as well.

Hi Liz,
How are the plans coming along?
I'll be running chase this year for another team.
Would be good to catch up.

Plans are coming along well. The riders have been doing weekend endurance races to get ready for the big one, and doing well in points. Everything is falling into place, course we've been working all year to make that happen. Thanks for your advice about GPS, pits, etc. We ended up signing up with Baja Pits. What team will you be chasing? Maybe we'll run into each other, you never know. We'll have two pit crews doing a leap frog throughout the race. I think the guys will ride 100 mile intervals, not sure. How did you do in the Vegas 2 Reno? And here's another question that seems trivial but is important to some of the team: Some want to bring food along to eat while in Mexico. Trying to find out what will be allowed crossing the border, what will be taken away. Do you have any thoughts on that? My plan is simple: go shopping at Walmart when we get there.... :-)

Liz,
The GPS map will probably get posted on the SCORE site a day or two before pre-run starts.
You can take almost any food you like into Mex, just make sure that you have all your vehicle registration/titles, Bikes/Trucks/Trailers in order when you cross the border. If you get turned around by the Mexicans at the border US quarantine will make you toss all your food in the trash as you come back into the US. They don't care that you just got turned around and it all came from the US 10 minutes ago.
Don't ask how I know this!!!!

We finished 6th in our class. Now I know that the saying "finishing is winning" is the truth. Had a GREAT time and looking forward to 2010 racing. Thanks for all your advice! We learned some hard lessons, though, regarding team spirit and are reassembling/reworking our team for 2010 races. The food thing turned out fine. We had one packet of home grown dried oregano confiscated by the local troops at a toll stop.... He slyly put it in his pocket. No kidding. One hard lesson was seriously be careful about where you eat before a big race. I was sick the second day we were there and stayed sick for two whole days and nights. Even though I was OK on race day, it really burned me out and I had a hard time performing in the pits. Oh well, live and learn. OK, take it easy and keep the rubber side down (except for wheelies and other shenanigans...).

Put me on the list of willing volunteers also. Anytime, any place
